Paleochora

Paleochora is a beautiful seaside town with 2100 inhabitants (2001). Located 72 km west of Chania. It is built between two bays, the east and the west. A different blue flag beach there is on each side, the beach on the west is called Pachia Ammos (Thick Sand), and to the east the pebble beach (Gravel). The beach Pachi ammos is organized with sun beds, umbrellas, it is fine sand and it is very popular to locals, especially on weekends. Near the beach there are hotels, rooms and villas. The pebble beach (Chalikia) is also organized. Apart from these two beaches in Paleochora you can swim in Gianiskari beach, Keratides beach, in the Tile in Bay Grammeno, and at the beach of Krios. At Paleochora you will find many restaurants and taverns, cafes and bars, open air cinema, supermarket, bakery, pharmacy, souvenir shops, banks, ATMs, taxis. In the evenings the seafront and the main street of Paleochora remain closed to vehicles and are only for pedestrians and converted with tables for lunch or a galaktoboureko.
